These little yellow birds are all around the Waikoloa area. |
Nice surf board....no surfer!! |
My first whale sighting of the season. |
Not a great whale picture but I was excited to see them from the shore. |
This boat would have had a great view. |
Walking to Makalawena Beach. |
We chose this area because it isn't as busy on the weekends as some beaches that have easier access. |
Kim looks happy to be here!! |
Not too crowded....on a Saturday afternoon. |
A few surfers here, too. |
My toes couldn't compete with Kim's "pedicured" tootsies!! |
We ate our sack lunches and then it was time to hit the water! |
At first Kim looked like she was going to do battle with the waves....her fighting stance didn't slow them down at all. |
I rather think they had a good time in the water!! |
This nice guy on shore offered to take some pictures of all of us. |
Kim had the "hold your nose" down really well. |
Looks like Doug....the only one with a mustache. |
I finally got out my underwater camera and took some "action" shots. |
Love that face, Kim!! |
Walking back...the sun was getting low. |
Makalawena is the third of three beaches accessed by a pretty rough road and then a bit of a walk. This was back at the second beach...on our way to the car....gorgeous sunset. |
There's some great palm trees here....one is especially good for climbing. |
Trying to get just the right angle for the picture.....not quite right here. |
There....that's better...now it looks like he climbed a palm tree, for real. |
Gotta love the sunsets!! These beaches are really close to the airport....notice the airplane coming in to land. |
Here is another good one. |
Amazing SUN!! |
On the way home we stopped by the Waikoloa Queens Shops to watch and listen to the group, Kohala. Charles (far left) plays in this acoustical guitar group. |
