Hike to Kealakekua Bay- April 2013

Our favorite place on the Big Island to snorkel is Kealakekua Bay, Captain Cook's Monument is beside this bay and the only way to get to it is by boat or hiking.  We use to be able to rent Kayaks and kayak across the bay but now you cannot land a kayak, unless you are part of a kayak tour group. The other way is a hiking trail, 2 miles long with a 1500 ft elevation change.  It is challenging but fun. The hardest thing is the hike out....uphill of course...after snorkeling. We weren't sure about Kyla going but they decided they were game for it and we could take it slow if we needed to.  She made it of course...with flying colors.
This is probably a little more than 1/2 way in....we can finally see the ocean....but we have to get down to it.
