We kept hearing about Waipi'o Valley...4 wheel drive required...but we had never been there, so we decided to take the drive with Mark and Kyla. 4 wheel drive is required because of the steepness of the road. It was beautiful and interesting. Downhill traffic has to yield to uphill traffic because it is so steep that you might have trouble getting going again if you have to stop. It is a one lane road also.

Beautiful cliffs. |
Road heading down...not too bad!! |
It doesn't look as steep in the pictures as it really is. |
Locals aren't too fond of wandering tourists |
Waterfalls in the distance |
Locals grow taro here |
Stream we drove through |
Huge, deep, mud puddles....water was up to the floorboards! |
Black sand beach where the river flows into the ocean |
Looking up river to the mountains. |
Do you have a personal vehicle there? Do you just rent when you want to do something like this?
