Evening Hike to Kealakekua Bay

November 3rd was union meeting Sunday at Terry and Keala's in Waimea. We took a couple pictures afterward's. That evening we hiked into Kealakekua Bay with Stephanie, Dean, Justin and Colter.
All our friends from Hilo, Kona and Waimea, plus a few visitors....I am behind the
camera and Auntie Vi and Tutu were already in the car.

I ran and snapped a picture of Auntie Vi....a very special lady.
Kale, Terry, Keala, Corle', Charles, Kawena and Cali.

Stephanie had been here for about a month, staying with her Dad, so we decided that we should hike down to Kealakekua Bay with her before she headed home to Montana. Her boyfriend Dean was visiting from Canada and Justin and Colter Fair joined us, too. We have never taken off so late in the day before, but we had a great hike and fun snorkeling before we hoofed it up to the top.

Stephanie in her "boots".....she had a choice of flip flops or boots.....it worked.

Halfway down....still smilin'.

Captain Cook's Monument
We were the only ones snorkeling....so the monument area was vacant.

Heading up the hill after snorkeling.

Watching the sunset....while hoping it wouldn't get too dark, too fast.

The kids halfway up at sunset....we made it to the car without flashlights.

White Road Hike

There is a hike just out of Waimea that we have been wanting to do
for some time now...and we finally did it.
You head up to the end of White Rd. and then hike for
a couple of miles and you end up overlooking Waipio Valley.

This is what the country side looks like at the end of White Road.

After climbing over a couple gates you end up in Kohala Forest Reserve.

Wild flowers along the way.

Hamakua Ditch

Bamboo

This is actually the roots of a very large tree that is uprooted.

Beautiful textures and colors of moss.

When you are almost to the viewpoint there are several towering sequoias

At the viewpoint.

A narrow trail to the left...past a warning sign....and on we go.

It is hard to capture the expanse of the scenery in a picture...
.but it was straight down...you can't see the bottom...and straight up.

It was a great "Saturday hike".

Awesome when the wild flowers are orchids!!

Incredible "tree ferns".
