Final Mid September (Part 3)

Saturday we headed to Waimea for the farmers' market and then across the mountain road to Hawi.
Kelly and Scott viewing the Kohala Coast from the Kohala Mountain Road.

Dry and barren on the first part of the drive.

Cactus

The trees along here are survivors!!

Love this sign!!!

Cacti, cattle and the ocean.

Just getting into the ranching area on the mountain road.

Green again.

Kelly at his best....pig squealing...a man of many talents.

A place after Scott and Fay's hearts....

Ironwood trees line the mountain road.

Ring neck pheasant...in Hawaii!!!

Grass growing on the top of the fence post.

These trees are REALLY wind blown.

From Hawi we headed to Kapa'au and then to the end of the road.
Another day, another hike....this one is about 1.25 miles down.

Looking back into the valley.

This trail is steep, too. Wouldn't be fun on a rainy day!!

Scott liked the "cliff" sign...Kelly decided to act it out.

The coast line here is captivating and inaccessible.

At the bottom are fun and games for the monkeys in the group.

Huge swing for the more sedate!!

Looking up the valley.

The kid in me comes out with black sand and a stick.

My hubs is a bigger kid than I, with black sand and a LOG!!!

He was VERY proud of himself....

...Way to steal my thunder.

No wonder our kids are competitive!!

Love this picture...it shows how steep the trail is. The sign part way up is the "cliff" sign in the previous picture.

I had to take pictures on the way up also because the sun was gorgeous on the waves.

Steepness.

These hawaiian rocks fall without warning anyone.....RUDE!!

Rainbows...they are all a little different just like sunsets!!
Kelly and I checking out the rainbow.

Papaya tree
Another rainbow on the way home.

Awesome tree house in this Banyan tree.

Scott and Fay's last sunset....at "A" Bay.
